Placing 3rd Place in the ACUI’s Steal This Idea Design Competition, this 5" x 4", spiral-bound desktop calendar was designed for the staff of the Cal State LA University-Student Union. The main goal was to improve morale among staff and highlight growth from their student employees.
Developing a visual system and understanding functionality
Through research of layout grids and consideration for the range of individuals who will be using this product, I developed a visual system that utilized modular grids with simplified elements. The designed experience of the calendar allows for a smooth, clear flow of information that maintains a high energy but remains organized.
To optimize the calendar's readability, the hierarchy of information is structured through constrasting scale and color, leading the user's eye through the design. Above the calendar, the graphic elements accompanying the quotations are meant to reflect the values that are portrayed through abstract geometric forms.
